Landscape Development in Mountain Regions
Proceedings of the ForumAlpinum 2007 (18. – 21. April, Engelberg / Switzerland) are now online

The proceedings of the ForumAlpinum 07, held in April 2007 at Engelberg / Switzerland, have been published by the Austrian Academy of Sciences Press as an online edition. The publication comprises summaries of all contributions presented at the Forum, covering the subject of Landscape Development in Mountain Regions within four main sections by applying an interdisciplinary approach. The first part covers issues of values and valuation by focusing mainly on societal and economic questions, including value-constituting contexts such as perception and identity. The second section deals with transformation processes focusing on land-use change in the past, present and future, involving urbanisation processes as much as agricultural development and climate impacts. The third complex investigates the topic of cooperation and decision-making in landscape management from various perspectives such as down-to-earth negotiation processes and the possible benefits of remote sensing and modelling techniques to landscape management. The last section discusses landscape’s role in a changing society and includes comprehensive conclusions of the Swiss National Research Programme 48 “Landscapes and Habitats of the Alps”. Finally, the proceedings feature current European research programmes and projects as well as abstracts of the twenty-nine displayed posters.
